This is an original vintage pictorial map of the Languedoc-Roussillon on the southern coast of France. The map shows the wine-producing areas of Languedoc-Roussillon that lie on the coast. The region is the single biggest wine-producing region in the world, responsible for around a third of France’s wine production. Interestingly, during World War II, the Languedoc region was responsible for providing the daily wine rations given to French soldiers.

The top third of the map shows the ancient Roman aqueducts that can be found throughout the area. Walking among these are French people in traditional dress. The central third of the map shows the wine-producing areas of the region, highlighting cities like Avignon, Marseille, Montpellier, and Perpignan. The bottom third of the map shows the sea, layered with drawings of the port of Marseille (including the Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde) and the coastal landscape. At the top is the title text “Les vignobles de France” (“The vineyards of France”), and at the bottom is the subheading “Languedoc Roussillon Côtes de Provence et Corse” (“Languedoc-Roussillon Coasts of Provence and Corsica”).
