Antique Maps of North America
With maps dated from 1550 through to the 19th century, we have the whole history European discovery of the North American continent available for sale. Our collection begins with Sebastian Munster's 16th century depiction of North and South America. The broad shapes of the continents are beginning to be known, but many inaccuracies remain, and the scale of the Pacific Ocean is vastly underestimated. From there, the maps get more detailed and accurate, showing increasingly accurate landmasses, locations of major rivers, lakes, mountain ranges, and, eventually, settlements, including Native American Indian territory. The maps become more defined as the United States, Canada, and Mexico take shape. We have pieces by E. Andriveau-Coujon, Henry Briggs, Jacques Nicolas Bellin, and more, so there's something for anyone interested in the history of the continent.
