1719 Carte de la Terre Ferme, du Perou, du Bresill, et du Pays des Amazones…
By: Henri Abraham Chatelain
Date: 1719 (Published) Amsterdam
Dimensions: 16 x 20.4 inches (40.64 x 51.82 cm)
This fascinating and highly detailed Chatelain map, which is based on Delisle’s earlier map of the region, focuses on one of the most talked about areas of the world today, the Amazon and its tributaries.
The map shows the region as it was in the late 17th and early 18th centuries, with many settlements, cities and place names on the coasts of the continent and to an extent inland, especially along rivers. Mountains, rivers, lakes and other geographic and topographic information is provided by the map. In an inset in the upper right quadrant Chatelain describes the region in French. Annotations fill many spaces in the interior of the map, providing additional information concerning those regions.
Condition: This map is in A condition with a strong and dark impression on bright paper. Some toning does exist along the centerfold, which is common among these maps.
