This is a scarce and exciting bird’s eye view of the greater Chicago area as it was in the late 1950s. The print extends far out to include Dubuque Iowa, Madison, and Fond du Lac Wisconsin. Towns, rivers, canals, and highways are noted, along with various landmarks that include soldier field, the Museum of Science and Industry, Great Lakes Naval Training center, the steel mills of Gary, Indiana, 4 water intake cribs, beaches, and state parks. In the lower left, a passenger airplane prepares to land at either Midway, O’Hare, or Meigs Field. This map provides an excellent representation of how much the greater Chicago area has expanded and become more densely populated over the last 58 years, since this bird’s eye view was printed.
Condition: This map is in B+ condition with remarkable coloring one small area of separation at a fold intersection in Lake Michigan.
