1990s Evil Remard 2 | Original Ghanaian Hand-Painted Movie Banner
DESCRIPTION
A monstrous many-headed creature dominates this spectacular Ghanaian hand-painted movie banner, transforming Evil Remard 2 into a riot of supernatural terror and brilliant color. Signed MR BREW ART and created for SHARP VIDEO, the painting combines a vivid turquoise ground, dramatic red border, and fantastic horror imagery in a striking work of popular art.
From the 1980s onward, Ghanaian video clubs and traveling cinema operators commissioned local artists to advertise films screened in temporary theaters and community spaces. Painting on recycled flour-sack cloth, these artists freely reimagined horror, action, and fantasy films with extravagant creatures and sensational scenes designed to draw audiences.
The signature and SHARP VIDEO inscription preserve the identities of its maker and exhibitor. Original flour-sack printing survives on the reverse, and pronounced folds, surface abrasions, and paint losses record extensive handling. Its fantastical imagery and vibrant palette capture the distinctive energy of Ghana’s hand-painted cinema tradition.
