By: Matthaeus Seutter
Date: 1716 (published) Augsburg
Dimensions: 19 x 22 inches (48 cm x 56 cm)
This superb example of Seutter’s map is based on the original by de L’Isle. The map shows Paris and regional territories of France, including names of provinces, cities, small place names, villages, castles, monasteries, grand estates such as Fontainebleau, rivers and lakes and forests. The engraving is very finely done and the smallest notations are easily legible.
The decorative title cartouche features a queen, cherubim representing myriad ideals from antiquity and an overflowing cornucopia. The scale is also enclosed in a small cartouche.
Condition: This hand highlighted in color map is in A condition with light, even toning. Printed on good, heavy paper with original ample borders.
