Date: 1938 (Copyright) Chicago

Dimensions: 16.5 x 22.5 inches (42 cm x 57.15 cm)

This is a spectacular bird’s eye view of the area around the proposed hover damn and Lake Mead (unnamed). The image spans from California through Nevada to Utah and Arizona. Notable places include Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Zion and Brice Canyon National Parks, as well as a portion of the Grand Canyon. Topographical detail is gloriously illustrated and includes elevation data and numerous names of rock formations, mountains, canyons, and forests.

The map was produced by the Union Pacific Railroad Company and so it delineated the rout of the railroad from Salt Lake City on the far horizon, southwest through the small town of Las Vegas and the larger Boulder City, continuing on to California. Railroad tours stemming from the main branch are shown to service the national parks and forests in southern Utah and Northwest Arizona. Arrowhead auto-trail is also shown as an alternative to the railroad.

Condition: This map is in B+ condition, with minor separations along original folds and their intersections that have been reinforced on the verso.
