DESCRIPTION

Published in 1910 by the Harry Von Tilzer Music Publishing Co. of New York, All Aboard for Blanket Bay features music by Harry Von Tilzer and lyrics by Andrew B. Sterling, one of Tin Pan Alley's most successful songwriting partnerships.

Dedicated "To Little Raymond Sterling," the song is a sentimental lullaby that imagines bedtime as a voyage to the "Land of Dreams," reflecting the early twentieth-century popularity of domestic ballads centered on family life and childhood. Intended for voice and piano, it was marketed for performance in the home, where illustrated sheet music remained a principal form of popular entertainment.

The cover is printed in pale blue with an oval portrait of a mother holding a young child, framed by a beaded border. Two small sailboats appear on calm water behind the portrait, reinforcing the nautical theme suggested by the title and lyrics. Large rounded display lettering dominates the upper portion of the cover, while the lyricist, composer, and publisher are arranged neatly along the lower margin. The back cover advertises Harry Von Tilzer's popular song I Want a Girl (Just Like the Girl That Married Dear Old Dad) with a substantial musical excerpt, illustrating the publisher's practice of promoting other current successes.
