Date: 1931 (Dated) Cape Town
Dimensions: 15 x 23.5 inches (38.1 cm x 59.7 cm)
A scarce promotional map of the Cape Peninsula published by the Cape Peninsula Publicity Association and the South African Railways & Harbours Administration.
Various tourist and historical sites are displayed to attract visitors to the region, described on the verso as developing from "The Tavern of the Southern Seas" to "The Riviera of the South." Despite the bold colors and charming illustrations, this idyllic representation of the Cape hides the underlying racial tension that dominated South Africa in the 1930s and later.
Seventeen photogravures are on the verso surrounded text describing "The Glorious Cape Peninsula."
Condition: The map is in A+ condition, with no visible flaws other than the original publisher's stamp on the verso.
