This beautifully hand colored print depicts one of the many battles between the Dutch and Spain as they battled for dominion in the New World.

The print features ships of the Dutch West India fleet as they attack Philipsburg, St. Martin in 1629. A fire is to be seen blazing onshore as the Dutch attack. In the exchange of cannon fire, one ship is set ablaze while many Dutch ships are seen approaching the site with their cannonry firing at the Spanish-held settlement.

A legend in the upper right provides names and a key to finding them. The print is embellished by a beautiful fancy ribbon title cartouche.

Condition: This map on hand laid, watermarked paper is in B condition. The image itself is intact with repairs done with archival material to the bottom edge corners.
