Date: 1730 (published) Amsterdam

Dimensions: 20.5 x 23.5 inches (52 x 59.5 cm)

This is a scarce cartographic work by the Van Keulen family that provides three charts detailing islands in the Irish Sea.

The chart at top left depicts the Isle of Man with north oriented to the top right corner. The second chart of the Menai Strait (here named Menay Riv.) between the island of Anglesey and mainland Wales runs diagonally through the center of the sheet. The third and final chart, appears at bottom right. It shows Holy Island (including the town of Holyhead) off the coast of Anglesey, with the bridge between the two illustrated as well.

All three charts feature compass roses, rhumb lines, anchorages, soundings and navigational hazards. Several towns, settlements, churches, appear on land as does topographical detail which is an uncommon element in most sea charts.

Condition: Map is in B+ condition with a minor tear repairs and a few faint diagonal folds along thinned paper in the top left
