By: Jacques Nicolas Bellin
Date: 1759 (published) Paris
Dimensions: 8 x 11.25 inches (20.25 x 28.5 cm)
This is beautiful hand colored chart of the Islands of Juan Fernandes by Bellin. Often called Robinson Crusoe Island, they are located approximately 400 miles to the west of Chile, in the same time zone as mainland Chile.
The map shows the mountainous terrain of the island, particularly striking in the upper view. Depth soundings are denoted and a number of bays are delineated in the upper view. Rhumb lines radiate from the compass rose. Fewer than 900 people live on the island, subsisting on fishing and the tourists who make the island their home part of each year.
Condition: Map is in A+ condition exhibiting delicate hand-color on clean paper with full margins on all sides.
