The map features the towns of Ostendi, Nieuport, and Furnes as well as Fort Blackenbergh with many smaller villages and estates noted and connected via roads. The nautical portion of the map features depth soundings with banks illustrated and many sailing vessels depicted along the coast. Near top center is an elaborate and unusual compass rose featuring windheads in billowing clouds with rays of sunlight beaming from their head and mouths.
Condition: This map is in very fine condition with some darkening of the paper in the top right and some marginal tears, crinkles in the paper, one of which has opened within the map image at top left, but has been reinforced on the verso with archival material. Hand color is beautifully done.
