This is an elaborate pictorial map of Dallas detailing the downtown hub, neighborhoods, lakes, and many freeways that intersect the city. Published in 1986 by the Old San Francisco Steak House, this map is an interesting look at a sprawling American city.
The map extends from the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and Grapevine Lake in the northwest to the Cotton Bowl Stadium in the southeast and the famous Southfork Ranch in the north. Southfork was once the most famous ranch in America, serving as the setting and filming location for the prime time television soap opera Dallas (1978-1991), which consistently ranks as one of the top TV series to this day. The map also depicts many transportation hubs, plazas, hotels, and businesses.
The Old San Francisco Steak House was a restaurant built on love and legend. While in San Francisco, Captain Tony Taylor of the Texas Rangers fell in love with the popular showgirl Gussie Lee. After a whirlwind romance, the two decided to meet in Texas where they would open the San Francisco Steakhouse. That plan, however, never came to fruition: on her way to Texas, Gussie Lee’s stagecoach was attacked by bandits and she was killed. Upon hearing the news, Captain Taylor was seen riding off into the night, and was never seen again. It is still in business today.
