This charming and elegant map in Dutch is entitled Great Tartaria and depicts much of Asia including Tartaria, Russia, Persia, present-day China, northern India, Mongolia and Kazakhstan.

An area in India is called the Mogol Empire and Tibet is shown within the boundaries of ‘Turchestan’. All known cities of the day are named as are many smaller settlements. A section of the Great Wall of China is clearly depicted, and the Japanese island of Hokkaido, often called Iesso is included, while the waterway separating them is labeled the ‘Straits of Iesso’. Great mountain ranges and foothills, rivers, deserts and forested land are all depicted in detail.

Condition: This map is in A condition with light even toning slightly darker at the edges. Centerfold and other minor separations have been repaired with archival material on the verso. Original and later color.
