Extremely scarce example of a 1940s pictorial map of Pike's Peak and the local attractions.
Amusing pictorial map of the Pikes Peak region, including Colorado Springs, Cripple Creek, and Manitou Springs. Comedy is used liberally in the illustrations and descriptions, such as a smoking monkey at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, the "Rocky Mountain Canary" and clever alliteration in the description of a brutal massacre. Major events from the region are depicted in the four corners of the map, and vignettes throughout show local attractions.
George Vander Sluis was an American artist who studied at Broadmoor Art Academy in Colorado Springs and eventually became associate Dean of the School of Arts at Syracuse University.
There are no copies of this map available in the WorldCat catalog, and it appears to be quite scarce.
Condition: This map is in A condition, with only minor discoloration along the margins and on verso.
