This scarce vintage map by Myro Zimmerman Barnes was published in New Orleans in 1942. It covers the original fortified settlement of New Orleans along the Mississippi River and inland as far as modern day N Rampart Street.

Barnes’ whimsical map features many sights and vignettes of the city including famous mansions, churches, men fencing with foils, and a great number of people peddling their wares. Individual streets are noted, as are fortifications and other historical sites. Famous monuments are featured, along with a reference to Marti Gras with a rendering of the ‘Lord of Misrule’. A variety of sea-going vessels are shown in the Mississippi River, from an early Spanish galleon to a passenger ship of the map’s era. Beautiful scenes of nature in all her splendor further embellish the map. The border features some of the various lovely cast-iron designs which are found in the city and its environs.

Condition: This vintage pictorial map is in A condition.
