DESCRIPTION

This remarkable vintage original WWII poster is part of a poignant series issued by Abbott Laboratories in collaboration with the United States Treasury’s Schools-At-War Program. This design underscores the importance of all citizens on the home front contributing to the war effort by buying war bonds to finance combat operations. The image depicts a sailor carrying a large sack while making a "Victory" sign with his fingers. Made by German born Ernest Fiene prior to WWI

Abbott Laboratories, a key supplier of penicillin during World War II and well-known for its development of anesthetics in World War I, commissioned this compelling artwork to encourage the purchase of war bonds. The company president took great care in selecting artists for this important series, often sending them to combat zones to provide authentic representations of wartime life.
