1893 A Narrow Escape
DESCRIPTION
An original late 19th century fine art print of a painting by the German artist, H. Schnars-Alquist that was on display at the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago. This antique print, was part of the 1893 Geo. Barrie publication of Art and Architecture by William Walton.
The artist is depicting a steamship navigating the rough ocean waters and a smaller vessel nearby with two occupants, perhaps distressed, trying to avoid a collision. The original description that accompanies this print describes the work as follows;
"......a mid-ocean view of the steamship "City of Paris", observing a nautical incident----the escape of the sailing smack from under the steamer's bows....."
