1935 South Carolina
DESCRIPTION
South Carolina is sometimes called the "Heart of the Old South" because in colonial days it was one of the richest of the southern group of colonies and a leader not only in commerce, but in social & political activities. A Cypress tree is depicted in a vignette above the title. Racial stereotypes appear throughout, typical of that time period. In 1935, South Carolina produced cotton, corn, oats, hay, sweet potatoes, & other vegetables and fruits. Charleston is a busy port and a grand old city with a strong colonial atmosphere.
