This remarkable vivid map by Valentyn presents the Trading Post of the Dutch East India Company in Hooghly, Bangal as it appeared in 1721. Francois Valentyn, a Dutch minister and naturalist authored the book "Oud en Nieuw Oost-Indien," which describes the history of the Dutch East India Company and many countries of the far east.
The map is oriented to the west with north to the right as defined by the compass rose positioned above the sailing ships. Hooghly Trading Post is situated on the Ganges River in Bengal and Valentyn depicts its post office, residences, storage facilities, shops, and roadways. A key at lower left identifies many more structures in Dutch.
Condition: This map is in A condition presenting a strong and dark image on clean paper with ample margins on all sides. ne small hole is apparent in the lower left, but only noticeable when the map is held to the light. This has been reinforced on the verso.
