This highly detailed map depicts the Russian Empire as it was in the first quarter of the 19th century. In addition to Russian territory, the map includes part of Scotland, Norway and Sweden, Denmark, and part of Prussia in the west, with the map extending as far east as the Baring Strait and a tip of North America.
To the south and east it includes adjacent territories such as Persia, China, including a portion of the Great Wall, Korea, along with some islands. A portion of the Black Sea is included at the far left, and the Seas of Azov, Caspian, and Aral are all denoted. Mountain ranges are and river systems are included and many place names are cited.
Text surrounding the map on three sides describes the location and territories of the Russian Empire, including divisions (oblasts) along with the primary city of each. Demographic information includes topics such as population, government, religion, education, language and literature, manufacturing and commerce, military statistics, traditions and customs, etc. Highly detailed informative text for those interested in Russia of the early 19th century, as the empire was building toward its apex.
