Pictorial Map of the Rocky Mountain National Park, 1948 (w/ original envelope)
By: Richardson Rome
Date: 1948
Dimensions: 16 x 20
This is a wonderfully vivid map, originally printed by Richardson Rome within his own print shop in Denver, Colorado. Renowned for his etchings of famous landmarks throughout the United States. However, he also created a small number of maps of the Rocky Mountain National Park, with all the various locales throughout the park painstakingly detailed. Featured in its original mailing envelope
Inset within the map is artistically rendered Grand Lake, as well as the “Beautiful Dream Lake”. The artist’s love and care for the locale is well-apparent with the humor he puts into every nook and cranny. Look to the top of the map for a “Wet Cloud Waiting for a Picnic” or to the middle for the “Most Perfect Glacial Moraine in the World”. The love that the artist had for the Rocky Mountain National Park leaps off the page.
