Dimensions: 31 x 21 inches (79 cm x 53.5 cm)

This is a large folding map of Puget Sound in Washington State that was created to draw attention to the new city of Bellingham, which was formed by consolidating the towns of Fairhaven and Whatcom. In the top right corner, the map boasts Bellingham as “a city of the first class, with a population of 25,000,” and having “the best harbor on the Pacific Coast.”

The map extends from Mt Olympus and Mt Rainer in the west and south, up to Vancouver in British Columbia. Surveyed lands are colored yellow and county boarders are distinguished in orange. Principal cities such as Seattle, Tacoma, Bellingham, Vancouver, etc. are shaded in gray. A reference key in the lower left defines the various railways in operation, under construction, and planned. At the very bottom, this map is described as “A valuable compendium of useful information and complete railway and navigation guide for travelers and settlers.”

Condition: This map is in B condition with some paper browning along the folds. A fold separation that extends from the center of the map vertically to the top has been repaired on the verso. Some other minor holes and separations commonly found in these types of maps are also apparent.
