1862 Johnson's Iowa and Nebraska
DESCRIPTION
This is an original antique map of Iowa and the eastern portion of Nebraska published by Johnson and Ward out of New York in 1862. The map is color coded by county and shows newly surveyed land, lakes, rivers, railroads, towns, and military forts. Much of the counties in Nebraska and northwestern Iowa have no towns or settlements, and some have yet to be surveyed, which was a dangerous job at the time. Important towns found within the map include DuBuque, Iowa City, Cedar Falls, Des Moines, Sioux City, and Omaha City to name a few.
