1839 The Coasts of Guatimala and Mexico from Panama to Cape Mendocino with the Principal Harbours in California 1839
By: John Arrowsmith
Date: 1839 (dated) London
Dimensions: 14.5 x 19.5 inches (36.8 x 49.5 cm)
Rare map of Mexico and Upper California containing some of the earliest sketches of California harbors.
- Santa Barbara - Monterrey - San Diego
- San Francisco - Port Bodega - San Gabriel or San Pedro
This interesting map focuses on Mexico when it extended from the Yucatan to what is now the southern border of Oregon, including Texas along the way. At this point in history, many of the early, non-native settlements were along the Pacific Coast. What is arguably the most important aspect of this map are the insets of the various harbors in “Upper or New California.”
Condition: This map is in A condition with a light horizontal paper fold, fine original color and full margins.
