This is a splendid bird's-eye-view of Nikko, Japan, the national park and it's natural attractions of Mount Nantai, Lake Chuzenji, Kegon Falls, and several hot springs.

Nikko is a very scenic location and a popular tourist destination located just 100 miles north of Tokyo. Inside of town, hotels, businesses, post offices and other venues important to tourists are frequently labeled. Outside of town various scenic locations are given the most attention. It's easy to conclude then that this map was made to promote tourism in the area. The red lines within the map indicate rail and bus routes connecting various stations.

Matsui Tenzan a.k.a. Tetsutarou is said to have made over 60 birds eye view maps in total of the Kanto, Tohoku and Shizuoka regions of Japan. His maps typically emulated a painted style that would also serve as a useful tool for the traveler. He would include names of businesses and buildings on his maps and on the reverse side regional advertisements would be published.

Condition: Map is in A condition, issued folded, now flat and detached from original covers.
