This authentic hand-colored antique map from Mitchell’s New General Atlas depicts the globe according to the Mercator Projection, with the unusual feature of showing the Americas at the center.
This decorative map shows trails taken by 18th and 19th century explorers such as Cook, Gore, Ross, Clark and the US Exploring Expedition, aka as the Wilkes Expedition.
The map is framed by a distinctive floral and vine-leaf border.
Condition: This print is in A condition with light toning around the edges. There was a center fold separation in the lower margin that has been repaired on the verso.
