This authentic antique map shows the United States approximately fifty years after independence had been declared. It shows the swift westward expansion of the country, and the regions which had already been declared as territories, such as the Michigan and Northwest Territories.
Extensive detail is devoted to the Mississippi River and its tributaries, and in fact all water in whatever form, whether as lakes, rivers or streams, is clearly detailed and named. Indian nations and tribes in all areas where known are named. 'Old' Indian villages are denoted, and forts are clearly marked. The map extends into Mexico to the south and into southern Canada in the north.
Condition: This map on heavy paper is in B+ condition. Slightly uneven toning and foxing on the borders and in the lower right quadrant.
