This authentic hand-colored antique map of the Venetian States is one of the finest of the early 19th century, when map making changed course and became more scientific and less decorative. Travel and commerce were expanding globally, thus the need for accuracy and detail in cartography increased rapidly.
This fine example covers the Bergamo and Lake Constance in the extreme upper left eastward past Tyrol, Venice and Mantua, to Istria and the Gulf of Trieste. Superlative detailing with color coding according to region combine to make this map one of the finest of its time.
Condition: This map is in B+ condition, with light toning and minor discoloration. A center fold separation has been repaired with archival material on the verso.
