This detailed map centers on the island of Manhattan with a western orientation. Central Park is show with impressive detail, locating the cricket grounds, botanical gardens, the receiving reservoir (now the Great Lawn), Croton Lake, and numerous trails throughout the park. At lower right, an insert displays a reduced version of the northern portion of the island that includes Harlem. This is an exceptional map that provides a detailed depiction of New York during the mid-19th century.
