This authentic antique hand-colored map by Robert de Vaugondy depicts Judea, or the Holy Land, divided according to the twelve tribes, each region outlined in color and identified by the name of the head of the tribe.
Inset in the upper left quadrant is a map of Canaan, or the Promised Land with portions of Lebanon (Phenicie) and Syria also included. The ‘desert of the pharaoh’ is noted, as is the northeastern part of Egypt. Topographical and geographical features are noted in each map.
Condition: This map is in B condition with some toning and foxing and damp staining. Archival tape has been used on the centerfold on the verso.
