This powerful and stunning antique map by Jacobus Tirinus features the Holy Land, oriented with East to the top. The border vignettes include objects sacred to Judaism such as a menorah, the Arc of the Covenant, the Altar of Sacrifices, the Tabernacle, the inner sanctum known as the Holy of Holies, and a plan and elevation of Solomon’s Temple. In the center is a bird’s-eye view of ancient Jerusalem showing all sites of import, based on the work of Juan Bautista Villapando. Various vessels sail the Mediterranean.
The two-sheet (joined) map includes the territories of the twelve tribes on both sides of the Jordan River, the route of the Exodus and the Wandering of the Tribes.
Condition: This map is in B condition with minor foxing, a brown spot in the center inset, and some small worm holes in the upper left border. Light roll fold at the top left border. Borders are wide all around.
