Dimensions: 11.75 x 11.75 inches (29.8 x 29.8 cm)
A rare piece of ephemera as-issued by the avant-garde Japanese fashion label, Comme des Garcons. This poster, accompanied by the original mailing envelope, was issued as an invitation to the 2011 event, Market Market, wherein rare archival objects and fashion from Comme des Garcons were sold within a Croatian Church.
This was a transitional event for Rei Kawakubo and CDG as it was held to introduce newcomers to the history of the label, perhaps better known at the time by devoted fashion lovers in their home country of Japan. Reading "These collections, carefully preserved for such an occasion over many years, are for the intrepid Come des Garcons Faithful, the occasional fan, as well as for the daringly undecided and the blatantly unsure. Your friends are welcome too."
Founding
Comme des Garcons was founded by Rei Kawakubo in 1969. Kawakubo is celebrated for her innovative approach to fashion, which often challenges traditional notions of beauty and form. Her designs are known for their deconstructed, oversized silhouettes and a focus on conceptual art rather than conventional aesthetics. She has had a significant influence on the fashion industry, pushing the boundaries of design and inspiring countless designers around the world.
