This is an authentic antique map of Asia, including portions of Europe and Africa by Samuel Augustus Mitchell. The map was published out of Philadelphia in 1861.
This striking map of Asia shows the continent color coded by country and provides a great snapshot at the geopolitical makeup of the continent during the 1860s. The Russian Empire is shown to dominate the top half of the continent from end to end, Tibet is shown within the Chinese Empire, India is labeled Hindostan under the British Raj government, and the majority the majority of Turkey and the Middle East is under the rule of the Ottoman Empire. The Great Wall of China and the Grand Canal are delineated along with shipping routes throughout Southern Asia with noted distances from London.
Condition: Map is in A condition with deep contemporary coloring and a strong impression.
