By: Covens & Mortier
Date: 1730 (circa) Paris
Dimensions: 19.5 x 23 inches (49.5 x 58.4 cm)
This is an authentic antique map of Nubia, Egypt, Abyssinia, and Arabia by Covens and Mortier. The map was published out in Paris circa 1730.
Based on Guillaume de L'Isle's important 1707 map of the area, this map employs a style more based on science and geographic reports than the ornate, decorative style popularized by Dutch map makers of the previous century. Much of the information used in this map was obtained from diplomats, missionaries, explorers and traders.
This detail rich, copper-plate engraved map covers the northeast African and Arabian regions from the Gulf of Guinea and Tunisia to the Persian Gulf. While most of the detail pertains to the Nile River Valley and Red Sea, several notations are also provided throughout the African continent and Arabian Peninsula.
Condition: Map is in A+ condition, with wide margins and original coloring over thick paper.
