This is an authentic antique map of the Egypt by Christopher Weigel. It was published in Nuremberg for the atlas Descriptio Orbis Antiqui in XLIV in the year 1720.
The map primarily features Lower Egypt which is color-coded in pink. It also provides a detailed illustration of the many branches of the Nile delta as they flow from the interior of Africa to the Mediterranean. The ancient city of Alexandria is visible in the northwest portion of the country. To the south there are notable cites such as Memphis and Nilopolis.
In addition the map includes a decorative cartouche complete with images of sixteen medallions derived from ancient coinage history and culture.
Condition: Map is in B+ condition with some foxing along the margins and a small centerfold separation that does not enter the image.
