This genealogical map/chart was issued hand-colored for the third American edition of Lavoisne’s Genealogical Historical Chronological and Geographical Atlas. It provides an accurate account of the origin, descent, and marriages of principal royal families of the dynasties of both Osman I, founder of the Ottoman Empire, and Genghis Khan, starting in the 13th century with his conquest of Persia.
The left side provides genealogical information regarding the Ottoman Turks starting with Othman I (Osman I), who is recognized as the founder and first emperor of the Ottoman Empire and Dynasty. The dynasty gained power as the Byzantines slowly lost territory. An early Ottoman victory was of the capital of the ancient Bythian Empire, modern day Bursa, where both Osman I and Osman II are entombed. The chart includes all Ottoman emperors from Osman I through 1808.
The coloured middle section of the chart contains family trees of the featured dynasties.
The right side of the chart is dedicated to Persia and its history starting from Genghis Khan in 1206. Family trees for the families of Genghis Khan, Tamerlane, the Turcomans, and the Sophis of Persia are detailed. The far right side contains text dedicated to the history of Persia starting with a short note regarding Alexander the Great, followed by a description of some of the many accomplishments of Genghis Khan. This is followed by a list of important rulers through the centuries, ending with the reign of Thamasp-Khouli-Khan who lost the Persian throne in 1787.
Condition: This hand-coloured chart is in A condition. Slight creasing near centerfold could easily be flattened.
