1552 Anglia II Nova Tabula
This is a lovely example of Sebastian Munster's Anglia II Nova Tabula published around 1552 as part of "Geographiae Claudii Ptolemaei Alexandrini, Philosophi ac Mathematici praestantissimi, Libri VIII… his accesserunt… tabulae novae… per Sebastianum Munsterum.”
The map is oriented with east at the top and shows all of England, Wales, and the Isle of Man, as well as portions of Scotland, Ireland, and the European mainland. Munster's map is of great cartographic importance as it is one of the earliest printed maps to focus on England and Wales. A key in the top left corner offers both English and Latin names for seventeen places in England that were considered of great importance during the mid-16th century.
