The map offers a combination of political geography, physical topography, with rivers, lakes, mountains ranges, plateaus, etc. noted throughout. Larger towns, cities, capitols, and state boundaries are also provided, while roads and railways are omitted from the map. Canada is outlined in Red, the United States in Green, and Mexico in Yellow. An inset map of the Aleutian Islands is provided in the lower left portion of the map.
Of particular interest, Greenland is rendered true to size and named "Danish America, and much of the northern Canadian Archipelago is names after John Franklin, the British arctic explorer who perished along with 129 officers and men when their two vessels became crushed by the ice while searching for the northwest passage. Ironically, the many years of searching for the Franklin expedition resulted in a complete mapping of the region and discovery of a navigable passage depending on ice flows.
Condition: Map is in B condition, toned throughout with some surface damage, the worst of which is in the brown border that surrounds the map. The original frame is sturdy and ready for hanging.
