This map of the Caribbean island of St. Lucia by Bellin is highly detailed around the coastline and inland, with agricultural areas denoted throughout, and remnants of a former fortress designated. Offshore, safe anchorages are shown. This map predates a much larger map with the same title published by Bellin in 1763 which includes insets of the island’s most important harbors. The map is embellished with an ornate title cartouche.
Jacques Nicolas Bellin was the first Ingenieur Hydrographe de la Marine of France, and also Official Hydrographer to French King Louis XV.
Condition: Map is in A+ condition with a dark print impression on clean paper with full margins on all sides.
