DESCRIPTION
This is a very fine example of an 1874 atlas of McLean County, Illinois and the United States, published by Warner and Beers in 1874. The atlas consists of approximately one hundred pages of lithograph maps and views.
Much of the contents of this atlas pays special attention to McLean County, its businesses, family farms, and residences. Township maps include family names and acreage of land ownership. The rest of the state of Illinois is presented in the form of county maps, with a few additional maps of the entire state of Illinois as well as a map of Chicago. The atlas continues with regional maps of the United States of which the western states and territories were in a constant state of change with advancing railroads and increased land ownership among new settlers. Finally, a map of the West Indies, the western and eastern hemisphere conclude the cartographic contents of the atlas.
