By: Asher & Adams
Date: 1869 (published) New York, NY
Dimensions: 15 x 12.5 inches (38 x 31.75 cm)
This is a superb example of Asher & Adam's Atlas of New York, featuring sixteen maps of New York State, and its counties. The atlas was published out of the Asher and Adams location at 335 Broadway, New York, NY in 1869.
The atlas begins with three maps of New York state, one highlighting railroads, another focusing on the geologic makeup of New York, and a final state map illustrating mean annual temperature with isothermal lines and the mean annual rainfall with shaded blocks. Following these maps is a detailed map of New York City and its surrounding burrows of Brooklyn, Queens, West Chester, and Hudson Bergen.
The rest of the atlas is made up of single and double page county maps the cover the entire state. Each map is color coded by township and delineates wagon roads, canals, and railroads that connect the various towns and cities within each county. At the end of this atlas is an extensive classified business directory of New York City, that references a wide variety of businesses from architects, butchers, dry goods retailers, and hotels to organ builders, artificial limb manufacturers, breweries, and tea importers to name a few.
Condition: This atlas is in A condition with very little wear to the covers or spine. All pages are securely bound, but one has a torn corner (still retained within) and another map has a small holes that has been professionally reinforced on the verso. All else is like-new condition.
