DESCRIPTION
This nautical chart by Giovanni Tommaso Masi depicts Guantánamo Bay in Cuba. At the time of the chart’s publication, it was known as Cumberland Port by the English. The bay is the largest on the south side of the island, and for centuries was reachable only by sea. The chart shows topography including place names, vegetation, drainage, lagoons and areas of high saline content, coastlines, islands and water depths and also includes coordinate points, a bar scale and a compass rose.
