This is a striking WWI French propaganda poster by Basté, created with the intention of selling war bonds to support the effort against Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy. The image shows Liberty with sword drawn, dropping heavy bags of money atop a soldier of the opposition. Each bag of coin is labeled with a different a bond issue. In the background, an unidentified city and its people lay in ruin.

The Banque Industrielle de Chine was a French bank with its main activities in China and French Indochina. It was created in 1913, expanded rapidly, but collapsed in 1921.

Condition: This poster is in B condition with a torn section in the lower left corner exposing the linen-backed paper beneath. The poster is darkened with age and also shows signs of damp staining with waviness to the paper in the lower quarter.
