This important map of North America was included in the atlas of John Blair, a fascinating oeuvre which was created for and dedicated to Augusta, Princess Dowager of Wales, in 1779.

The map was originally published in earlier editions of the atlas, and this one just three years following publication of the Declaration of Independence. This detailed map of the British Colonies in North America, features Georgia, the Carolinas and Virginia all with their boundaries extending far beyond the Mississippi River, their  borders stretching far into the plains.

Several Indian tribes and information relating to them are included on the map. Four false islands are shown in Lake Superior. The map is focused primarily on British North America east of the Mississippi, but does extend westward well beyond the Mississippi River and Lake Superior. The map provides richly detailed information, with rivers well depicted, and the names of many towns and cities are shown on the map.

Blair’s map provides a detailed look at the British Colonies between the French & Indian War and the American Revolution. The map also notes the boundaries established by the Treaty of Utrecht and 3 different English Colonial Charters.

Condition: This beautiful hand colored map is a bold impression in superb A condition on watermarked paper.
