Automobile Road from San Francisco and Oakland to Sacramento via Benicia, Fairfield, Dixon

By: Automobile Club of Southern California

Date: 1923 (published) Los Angeles, CA

Dimensions: 8.9 x 3 inches (22.6 x 7.6 cm)

This is a set of three automobile cards detailing the route from San Francisco to Sacramento by way of Oakland, Benicia, Fairfield, Vacaville, Dixon, and Davis. Mileage is provided in small circles adjacent to the auto trail with topographic detail including marshes and lakes, railroads, and smaller towns are noted throughout. At the bottom of each card is an interesting quote that is still quite pertinent today reads "HELP PREVENT FIRES" - IT PAYS.

These cards were essentially the precursor to road maps produced by oil companies and AAA. They are an important, early piece of automotive and travel history.

The Automobile Club of Southern California was founded on December 13, 1900, in Los Angeles as one of the nation's first motor clubs dedicated to improving roads, proposing traffic laws, and improvement of overall driving conditions. Today, it is the single largest member of the AAA federation, with almost 8 million members.

Condition: These map cards are in A condition with no tears, holes or writing.
