A relic of the East Berlin and the German Democratic Republic published in the 1970s, still many years before the fall of the Berlin Wall. This city map of East Berlin is bound by the wall on one side and extends to its suburban reaches in the north and east.
East Berlin in the 1970s was part of East Germany, a socialist state under Soviet influence. The city was characterized by a rigid political structure and limited personal freedoms. The government tightly controlled information, and there was a notable presence of state security apparatus. Economic challenges were evident, and there was a lack of consumer goods compared to the West.
The Berlin Wall, a symbol of the Cold War divide, separated East Berlin from its West Berlin counterpart until the historic protest of a half-million people in November 9, 1989 triggered the fall of the wall and the eventual reunification of Germany in 1990.
Condition: Map is in B+ condition showing some signs of ware with only a few areas of separations along fold intersections. The colors are bright and the map folds into itself with ease.
