Uncolored lithograph of Colonel Elmer E. Ellsworth, 1st Regiment of New York Fire Zouaves. He was a U.S. Army officer and law clerk who was the first conspicuous casualty & the first Union officer to die in the American Civil War.  He was assassinated at the capture of Alexandria, May 24th, 1861.
