This pictorial map of Argentina is a fine example of the work of Blondel la Rougery, a leading cartography company in twentieth century France. Produced in 1948, Blondel la Rougery’s map is a wonderful example of pictorial cartography.

The map shows Argentina and the countries it borders: Brazil, Paraguay, Bolivia, and Chile. Interestingly, the map shows Argentina and Uruguay in the same color, almost suggesting they are part of the same nation. The map highlights important cities of the country, like Buenos Aires, Mendoza, and Córdoba. Around the print are vignettes of historical scenes and figures. On the left side of the print is the Victoria, Ferdinand Magellan’s ship which he used to circumnavigate the globe. Also pictured are stampeding horses, cattle and sheep pastures, and portraits of Sebastian Cabot and General Rosas.

The map is in full color with beautiful detail and finely produced illustrations. With its fascinating historical detail, this map by Blondel la Rougery is a beautiful example of mid-century mapmaking and pictorial cartography.

Condition: Map is in A condition with full margins and bright colors.
